A little about me

I’m Laura Brownsteele, a ceramist based in Hexham, Northumberland. After leaving a busy life and stressful job in York, I found my way back to a slower, more considered way of living through pottery. Making pots by hand allows me to connect with the world around me, be part of a creative community, and embrace the joy of working with your hands.

Earlier in 2025, I had the wonderful opportunity to appear on Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes (Series 3, Episode 1), hosting Robson and Kacey Ainsworth for an afternoon of pottery in my portable studio. We spent the day throwing clay on tabletop wheels in his garden, chatting about the craft, the benefits of working with your hands, and the joy that making something with care can bring. My dog Penny ensured it was never quiet for long, bringing laughter and a few little madcap moments along the way.

It was a fantastic experience to share pottery with people who may not have encountered it before and to highlight a little creative corner in the heart of Hexham. Whether I’m running a workshop, creating new ceramic pieces, or crafting hand‑poured candles, my work is all about slowing down, being present, and celebrating the beauty of handmade objects.
